Ethical Guidelines
1. Introduction
RISTI - Revista Ibérica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informação is committed to ensuring the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. Authors who submit papers to RISTI attest that their work is original and unpublished, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. In line with international standards, this statement outlines the ethical behavior expected from all parties involved in the publication process: editors, reviewers, and authors.
2. Duties of Editors
2.1. Fair Play
Editors evaluate manuscripts based solely on their intellectual content, without regard to the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
2.2. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must ensure the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, disclosing no information about a manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or other editorial advisers.
2.3. Conflicts of Interest
Editors will not use unpublished information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author's explicit written consent.
2.4. Publication Decisions
The editor-in-chief is responsible for deciding which of the manuscripts submitted to the journal will be published, based on the validation of the work in question, its importance to researchers and readers, and the reviewers’ comments.
3. Duties of Reviewers
3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions and may also assist the author in improving the paper.
3.2. Confidentiality
Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be disclosed to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
3.3. Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
3.4. Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation.
3.5. Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the papers.
4. Duties of Authors
4.1. Reporting Standards
Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper.
4.2. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
4.3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
An author should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
4.4. Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
4.5. Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
4.6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
4.7. Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
5. Ethical Oversight
RISTI is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. In cases of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication, or plagiarism, the journal will take appropriate actions, including publishing corrections, retractions, or other necessary notes.
6. Anti-Plagiarism Policy
RISTI uses anti-plagiarism software to screen submitted manuscripts for potential plagiarism. By submitting articles to RISTI, authors attest that their work is free from any form of plagiarism.
7. Disclaimer
The views expressed in published articles are those of the authors and do not reflect the views or policies of the journal or its editorial board.
